Your Instructor
I am a career expert who studied and learned from the best in the industry. I was tired of not seeing the career progression promised to us when we graduated college.
I began reading every article or listening to every podcast that would help me with the job search process. I had the skills and education to get the jobs that I was applying for, but I wasn’t getting any traction with my applications.
At the time I was applying for jobs in Investment Banking or Corporate Finance. However, college graduates from more elite schools were the ones who got these jobs. I had not gone to an elite school. I did not have a 4.0. I did not score a 1600 on my SAT.
In fact, I took the long road to my bachelor’s degree and did not graduate until I was 27. I surely did not fit the mold of the typical Investment Banker. When most of these elite finance professionals were getting jobs paying in the high 5 figures, even six figures, my big raise after graduation got me to a whopping $40K.
By this point I had a degree and 7 years of work experience in banking. I was frustrated and determined not to settle for a low paying job with very little impact.
So, I began to study anything related to career advice, resume tips, interview tips, etc. Less than a year after graduating, I also began my MBA program.
I needed to leverage anything that would give me an edge with my career. By this time, I knew how important it was to have real world experience so I took on additional projects and responsibilities at work. If I couldn’t have the credentials of a high performer, I was going to at least have the experience.
It began to work. Within a few months of getting my MBA, I received a promotion into a new group. Within a year and half, I found myself in a job at one of the largest Investment Banking firms in the world.
Keep in mind that the first promotion was in 2009, only a year after the financial crisis of 2008. The next promotion was in 2011. The job market was very competitive at the time, but I had leveraged my knowledge of resume writing and LinkedIn so effective that recruiters were calling me about jobs to which I had not applied.
A couple years later, I accepted a position with a global pharmaceutical company. Again, a recruiter found me on LinkedIn and wanted to interview me before I even applied to the job.
This is also how I got the job with the company with which I’m currently employed. One of the recruiters with whom I had developed a relationship contacted me regarding this role.

A well-developed professional brand does the work for you. I have achieved this through a well-written resume, an effective LinkedIn profile and strong interview skills.
I assure you, this is not natural behavior for me. I am not a naturally an outgoing person who can sell themselves to strangers. This behavior is learned, and anybody can learn it.
